Objectives: Gain an in-depth understanding of the 14 CFR Part 5 Aviation SMS Safety Risk Management process and the Bowtie Risk Management methodology. Learn to apply the Bowtie method to gain detailed perspectives about aviation risks and to apply a control-based approach to realistically assessing and managing risk. Includes discussion of applying Bowtie to the Safety Assurance process, including auditing controls, investigating causes of accidents and incidents, relating them back to control failures and deficiencies and undertaking appropriate corrective actions.
This course is held in-person at the TSI headquarters:

The Bowtie methodology is fast becoming the ‘best practice’ benchmark for risk analysis in the aviation and aerospace industries. This highly visual and interactive approach to defining and managing operational hazards and risk is currently used by air carriers, commercial operators, MROs and aerospace OEMS around the world to address the risk-based requirements of Safety Management Systems (SMS) as well as ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D/AS9110C quality standards
This course will introduce participants to the Bowtie Methodology for analyzing hazards and risks in aviation operations. In support of their Safety Risk Management program, participants will discover the power of visualization to better understand their Hazard Registers and Controls and effectively manage the associated risks to the organization, its people and assets. Attendees will apply this method to analyze the hazards in their operations, evaluate the effectiveness of their risk controls and address weaknesses and threats specific to their environment.
Additionally, participants will explore how to improve their Safety/Quality Assurance programs by linking incident/accident investigations, change management and internal evaluation/audit to their Bowtie analyses.
Aviation Managers, Safety Officers, Investigators, Auditors and any aviation professional interested in better understanding how to control the risk associated with the hazards in their operating environment will benefit from this course.
